30K maintenance question

Hi,

I have a 2010 Kia Forte 2.0 and am at roughly 32 thousand miles. I want to make sure the car is in top condition and I know that many have said to get a maintenance job done at 30 thousand miles. My question is, what should be done at 30 thousand miles? There are many different answer I have gotten in regards to this and I want to know what I should do and should not do. Also, if anyone has a recommended shop in New Jersey(preferably north or central) please let me know. Thanks for everything and keep pushing for Liberty Eric! Thank you for all you write and do!

  1. Hi Harrison,

A service schedule should be in your owner’s manual/paperwork. I’d go by that. Probably, you’re still at the point where only routine stuff is required. You may need a new air filter, fuel filter – and I’d check the brakes, too.

    • I have looked in the manual and read what should be done but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t paying or doing anything that isn’t worthwhile or overlooking something that should be done. Any other thoughts are welcomed.

      Thank you.

      • Hi Harrison,

        You bet!

The thing to be on guard for is unnecessary service. If it’s not specifically mentioned in the factory service schedule, probably you don’t need it. Some unscrupulous shops will advertise “free 20 point inspection” along with their $19.99 oil change. They then “find things” that supposedly need to be done but which may not need to be done. So, be wary. And always get a second opinion before agreeing to any unusual/unexpected repair estimate.
