  1. At least in the Roman Coliseum days there were authentic games. No heroes, but animalistic contests with a dimension of reality. Wholly unlike our modern era of playpens full of grown-ass toddlers in matching bright-colored onesies wearing helmets and shoulder pads and being payed to play fight with inflated plastic balls under the supervision of nannies with whistles and striped shirts!

    • “authentic games… with a dimension of reality”

Trying to re-create that to some degree, I imagine that’s how Cross-Fit came about? Even then though, it’s still kind of silly, but a huge step up from a ‘no-grunt’ fancy gym. Imho.

I’ve dragged a tire and chains before, but not simply for the workout. Sports was similar, I stopped playing when it was no longer just for the fun of it,… when it really became war training in a semi-official way. The man with the whistle in his mouth is the gateway between the two.

  2. I hope these communists get life or worse. Damn kids violating sex-rationing rules and depleting our national fluid reserves when we’re in the middle of a war! Traitors who sap and impurify their precious bodily fluids are enemy combatants who all deserve a drone strike to their nuts!

    General Jack D. Ripper:
“Clemenceau said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians.

They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids…

Do you realize that in addition to the Communists fluoridating our water, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, and even ice cream. Ice cream, children’s ice cream!

You know when fluoridation first began?
Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

I first became aware of this, during the physical act of love.
A, uh, a profound sense of fatigue… a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I… I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.

I can assure you it has not recurred, Women uh… women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh… I do not avoid women. But I… I do deny them my essence.”

    Georges Clemenceau:

“America is the only nation in history which, miraculously, has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilisation.”

“Everything I know I learned after I was thirty.”

“Military justice is to justice what military music is to music.”

The graveyards are full of indispensable men.

Civil servants make the best husbands: when they get home, they are well rested and they have already read the newspaper.

Americans have no capacity for abstract thought, and make bad coffee.

It is easier to make war than make peace.

  3. I read some of the comments at the base of the article, many noting that the older guys should know better, if not be castrated for their crime.

Years ago when I joined a band to play lead guitar, I had my first gig. As we were in the Army, we played in an Army hall.

There were about 400 people enjoying the music. Between sets we went where we considered was “backstage”, to decide on the content of the next set.

There were at least a dozen young girls there, anywhere from 15 to 17, fawning over us and wanting to be taken away later for some fun. I was a bit surprised at this, because it didn’t make sense to me.

I still don’t understand this part of human behaviour. Is it the guy’s fault for being enticed or the girl’s for misleading him? What’s their motivation?

This appears to be a “sport” they play, as far as my studies in sociology can describe. Possibly to add to their conversations besides shoes and handbags. The parents of these girls should be more vigilant in my opinion, because if I couldn’t be led astray, surely one of my fellow band members will.

      • I am convinced that making sports worship by anyone over the age of 12 or so something most people regard as twisted and sad is an essential prerequisite to rebuilding a sane civil society.

It might be ok for little Tommy to venerate some guy who throws a ball or runs with a ball. But by the time Tommy is 17 or so, he ought to have put such infantile obsessions behind him.

Few things are more pathetic than two middle-aged men feverishly and intricately discussing the merits (and demerits) of “their” team – mooning over “the game” and almost crying when “we” lose.

        • Not to mention the amount of money the players make. One of my favorite things about sports is hearing people complain of the price of tickets (or even just parking) for one of these bread and circuses spectacles… if the sports fans who complain about the price of the games, or the amount of commercials, would just stop for a second and ponder the fact that they are the essential element making it all possible than maybe things wouldn’t be as bad as they are. I laugh as I type that because of course things would be better if all these sports worshipping morons woke up, but I think we can all rest assured they won’t until it’s too late. (bread and circuses, bread and circuses, history always repeats itself…)

          • Also worth noting in mainstream celebratized sports, is the obvious amount of steroids being passed around. “If you do the juice, but kiss the right ass, (be nice to the kids, make public donations to “charity” groups) you won’t get busted for juicing.”

Allow me to sarcastically add: Gee whiz, with all the “positive male role model athletes” being shoved down our throats, I wonder why people still say there is a lack of positive male role models?

            • In re “positive role models.”

What is there to emulate about a grown man who plays a kid’s game for a living?

Is it a good idea to imply that becoming an NFL player is a reasonable career goal?

Deification of athletes and mass sports obsession is a characteristic of authoritarian empires – and dying authoritarian empires.

          • “the sad sacks who drive around with the flags of “their” team whipping in the breeze on either side of their vehicle”

We have a few of those in my city, only, the flags are red white and blue. They were conditioned well.
