Mittens Gives Up!

So satisfying to watch this fatuous piano-key/capped-tooth SOB “give up”…

Mitt Romney won’t launch a third-party presidential campaign of his own and has stopped trying to recruit somebody else to do it.

The 2012 Republican nominee had attempted to recruit a challenger to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. But prospects like Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said no, and Romney is now dropping his efforts, a source familiar with Romney’s thinking told CNN. Mitt Romney
It’s the latest blow to the “Never Trump” movement — a group of (cough) “conservatives” led by Romney, blogger Erick Erickson and The Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol — to find an alternative to Trump.
Romney still hopes a candidate will emerge. But an adviser to the “Never Trump” efforts confirmed Tuesday night that the efforts are looking grim.
Part of the challenge, a key “Never Trump” official said, is that prospective candidates need to hear a campaign plan that involves money, staffing, viability, key states to target and a plan to get onto the presidential debate stages.
But the people making the pitches, the official said, “aren’t campaign managers. They’re writers, activists and politicians. You need someone to say, ‘this is how I’d make this real.’ The odds remain low.”
A list of prospects that include Sasse, Romney, former Marine Gen. James Mattis, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Ohio Gov. John Kasich have all publicly said they’re not willing to launch campaigns at this stage.Fartman!
Romney had been heavily involved in the recruiting efforts. He encouraged Sasse, the freshman Nebraska Republican, to run — but Sasse, who has three small children, said he’s not in a position to consider it.
Meanwhile, GOP officials are maneuvering to shut down talk of an independent candidate.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that a third-party bid would be a “suicide mission.”
“They can try to hijack another party and get on the ballot, but, look, it’s a suicide mission for our country because what it means is that you’re throwing down not just eight years of the White House but potentially 100 years on the Supreme Court and wrecking this country for many generations,” Priebus said on “Fox News Sunday,” anticipating that a conservative third-party candidate would split the Republican vote and ensure a Democrat wins the White House.

  1. In reply to eric.

yeah lots of errors in my posts lately. oh well.

i’m taking it as a given clovers won’t budge. pointing out their errors is fruitless.

and then the majority of the world, who’re the types of people who will subjugate themselves to a holy book of magic spells, or a promised magic utopia of a lenin, hitler, mao, or whomever. or the masses that sincerely believe they belong to a nation or breed of people because some decider has decreed it so. well, there’s not much hope there either.

that leaves addressing the rare articulate good and sentient person and digging deep in the bag of tricks to try to make them even better.

sure it’s not “fair.” or something i’d necessarily like done to me. but what of it.

being a better person than most. being more decent than everyone else. isn’t going to get what I and maybe even you want done.

so generally for the masses “be excellent to each other” is the order of the day.

but for those few who are the most excellent. what would it take for them to be even more excellent. and how can they be stressed and inspired into a whole higher level of excellentness.

    – anyway that’s the rationale for my “crimes” of philosophy and denial of the expected generosity of spirit, where I withhold giving the other fellow a fair shake.

    – most excellent people settle for being robust. but in theory there’s another level they can ascend known as being anti-fragile. under that mathematical model, you become better and stronger the more you are subject to stresses and even “unfair” and “unreasonable” treatment.

    • I think I have figured out where the Urban Dictionary came up with their definition.
      Reince = rancid
      Priebus = prepuce
BTW did you know Reince isn’t even his given name, it’s Reinhard. Why would anyone put up w/a nickname like Reince?

      • He is likely trying to hide (or feels guilty about) his German-sounding name. It’s not “diverse” enough for the GOP.

  2. I listened to an interview with Gary Johnson earlier in the week. Not surprised to hear that the only way to get into the debates is to get at least 15% in polls. Anything less and they’ll ignore any 3rd party candidate.

I also take part in an ongoing opinion poll by the Pew Research Center. One of the questions this week was “Who were you likely to vote for in the November election?”

    1) definitely Hillary Clinton
    2) maybe Hillary Clinton
    3) definitely Donald Trump
    4) maybe Donald Trump

Hmmm. Notice no “5) Other, please specify below” choice. No “6) I don’t plan on voting” either. The reason no one will consider running a 3rd party candidate is they’re all very aware they built the system to keep any third party locked out. The polls are running now, and the debates are being planned now. Planned for 2 people on stage, not 3 or 12.

    • Oh, I did find out you could just move on to the next question without answering. Didn’t know that was a choice in the survey before that question came up.

    • “they built the system to keep any third party locked out”
Kind of funny when you remember that the GOP was originally a 3rd (or 4th?) party.

  3. Mitten may have surrendered, but not Koch. He is now planning to give millions to the “L”ibertarian candidate in exchange for ‘Welding’ his VP choice. So this means Koch is now ‘un’officially supporting Killary. Better the devil you know (her) than the devil you don’t (the Donald).

          • At first blush that does not seem to fit within the NAP. But then I remembered that the NAP forbids threat as well as actual aggression. And he and his brother certainly threaten us.

            • Their aggression is by proxy, hence no more Koch pipeline on my land because (1) I wouldn’t take their money and (2) Their paid “help” didn’t like the look of the end of my side by side quail gun….loaded with #4 magnum. I have always tried to not let anyone see me with a “black” gun preferring the old school method nobody can dis.
