Here’s a video that could pass for a colorized hi-def reboot of Germany in the ’30s. Check out the hairdo of this modern American AGW. The sides of his head are shaved and whatever’s left on top Vitalis-greased in a style Ernst Rohm would have approved of.
But it’s the authoritarian attitude that’s even more reminiscent of 1930s Deutschland. The bullying and contempt-radiating.
And, of course, the language.
Talk of “safety” was very much the rage back then as well. And for the same reason: To cow the populace into accepting authoritarianism as necessary. The Reichsmarschall explained it succinctly:
“All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
He was referring to war, of course – but the tactic espoused is the same.
