Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!
Larry asks: I have been somewhat impressed by the Buick Tour X that has been on the market for a couple of years. I keep looking for a review by you of this car. Do you plan on reviewing this car in the near future? Buick doesn’t seem to be pushing the sale of this car at all. In fact here in Flint Michigan I drove through a large new car sales lot and didn’t see any Tour X cars at all. It should be more popular because it compares well with the popular Subaru Out Back. What do you think is going on.
My reply: GM has cancelled the Regal on which the Tour X wagon is based. This explains the dearth of advertising for both models. The Tour X may continue to be available after this model year but probably not.
Which is a shame, in my view. But then, I like wagons. The problem – for Buick – is that most Americans don’t. Subaru is one of the few that have done well selling wagons, including the Outback – which is the Tour X’s most direct rival. But I would encourage you to at least have a look at the Buick, which is a very similar vehicle and one you can probably get for a lot less than what you’d spend on a new Outback.
I’d like the Buick better if, rather than the 2.0 liter turbo four it comes with, it offered GM’s excellent 3.6 liter V6. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. But then, the Subaru is no longer offered with a six, either.
Sigh.
And they ask me why I drink!
