Reader Question: The Back-Up Volume Turn Down?

Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!

Simon asks: I understand that backup cameras are now mandated, but why can’t we play with our audio systems while reversing? Is that also a mandate?

My reply: No – but it might as well be – because this is a “feature”  included with most manufacturer’s back-up systems. For saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafey! Some of them even tell you to “look for safety.” Really? Where is he?

Like you, I find these system immensely aggravating – as well as unnecessary, assuming you can drive. Part of which competence includes the ability to reverse a car without the “assistance” a closed circuit TeeVee system as if you were piloting a Freightliner – and without having to turn down the radio, either.
