Reader Question: Keep the Charger?

Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!

Don asks: I have a 2018 Charger R/T which I love. With us being force-fed EV’s, does it make sense for me to keep it? I realize vehicles depreciate as a matter of course, but will that accelerate as time passes, especially for this one given the current political climate?

My reply: I’d cling to that Charger until they pry the keys from my cold, dead hands. If anything, that car will be worth more in the “electrified future” – assuming it ever arrives – because such cars will rise in value as fewer are made. Assuming, of course, that laws are not passed forbidding their use.

At any rate, if you were to get rid of it what would you replace it with? An EV that will cost you twice as much for anything comparable (e.g., a Tesla S)?  I see no upside to selling it now, before you’re force to – by politics. And politics forces you to, then it’s Game Over for us all, regardless.

Enjoy the car; make the most of every drive – knowing that the Gretas out there who see you driving it are practically bursting at the seams with rage over it!

  1. I always wondered what this electric future would mean for nascar. Races that need to be cut in half because of the shitty range of the evs. Cars that hit ludicrous speed to start but are down to 40 mph when they pit. Pit stops that take 45 to 90 minutes while we all wait for the batteries to recharge. The average pit window at a 1.5 mile track or larger being 15 laps. The sound of silence as 40 suped up golf carts blowing past you at 150 mph
