Now that the senile man has been pushed out of the race, the Orange Man can no longer push attention away from his own advanced age. He is all of the three years younger than the senile old grifter is right now – and the senile old grifter was the same age that Trump is now four years ago, when he pushed Trump aside.
The public is now very much aware of how much can change over less than four years when we’re talking about a man who is already in his late ’70s at the prospective beginning of another four years. It’s a difference analogous to that between a 14-year-old and an 18-year-old, but in a different direction. Trump seems cognitively ok right now.
How will he be four years from now?
So long as 81-year-old (and obviously senile) Biden was still the putative opposition, 78-year-old Trump did not seem as old.
But now that he faces an opponent who is not old, whatever her other detractions – his oldness will be focused on. And what will his counter be? The fact is he is old. And pushing 80 is very old. Especially in the eyes of people who are in their 20s ands 30s right now. Especially to the young women who will likely top the balance – or at least, make it feasible to tip the scales (as in via a thumb on the scales) in favor of the woman of color who is now the old white man’s putative opposition.
It does not help that Trump continues to beat the dead (almost) horse that is “Joe Biden.” He – Trump – seems not to comprehend that “Joe Biden” no longer matters and for that reason, no one cares.
Stop it, already.
Everything “Joe Biden” (and his crackhead son) has done has become politically irrelevant. It is old news.
What matters now is what Kamala Harris will do.
Trump will need to be exceedingly careful if he wishes to avoid a repeat of 2020. Mocking Kamala will backfire because she is not an old white man, the one demographic that can still be publicly mocked. If he does mock her – rather than her policies – he will instantly alienate an electoral sufficiency of young (and female) voters, who will easily be persuaded that he is an angry old man who has nothing positive to offer.
Kamala, meanwhile, will be closely protected by her praetorians in the press, who will safeguard her image just the same but more effectively than they kept the truth about “Joe Biden” under wraps for the past going-on-four years. If they could do it for him, is there any doubt they can (and will) do it it for her?
They will keep her on script – and she (unlike the senile man) can plausibly read a TelePrompter. She does not have any trouble ascending stairs and – if anything – is physically more vigorous than Trump, which is not a criticism of him but a statement of fact. Few pushing 80 have the stamina of someone not-yet 60.
It’s just biology.
He can – perhaps – keep a sufficiency of the electorate focused on the consequences of Kamala being (s)elected rather than what might occur (again) if another old man is (s)elected, if he can resist the temptation to focus on Kamala, herself.
Let her speak for herself – and pray she’ll continue to cackle like an annoying termagant and let that do its work.
And stop talking about the senile man, who is as relevant at this point as a copy of TV Guide from 1994.

The USSA can’t be saved. I don’t see how 2024 will be any different than 2020. If Trump has 90 million votes, Harris will have 92 million votes. As someone who was polled twice in 2015 (I still have a landline phone), I noticed a few problems with polls. One, it depends on what questions are asked. Two, it depends on how they’re asked. Three, it depends on the responses available to those being polled. Four, is an adequate sample being taken? Finally, is the sample skewed towards one party or the other? I’ll examine all of these factors in greater detail.
First, it’s elementary that, if one wants to get the right answer, then the right question must be asked. Is the poll asking the right questions in order to accurately measure public opinion? That’s problem #1.
Problem #2 is how the questions are asked. My late mother used to tell me how, in college, her class had done an exercise in polling or something. A key takeaway from the exercise is that, depending on how questions are asked, the pollster (or the person commissioning the poll, i.e. paying for it) can get whatever results they desire.
Concerning item #3, the options available to the respondent, is the one I noticed when talking to the pollsters. For the vast majority, if not all, of the questions I was asked, the only responses I could choose from were Republican or Democrat; THAT’S IT! There was no third option for Independent, Libertarian, or anything else. I remember how, during the one call, repeatedly telling the pollster that I really didn’t like either option; I said that, if you hold a gun to my head, I’ll choose R, but I’ll do so under protest because no other option is available. SO! If the responses are inadequate; if there aren’t enough options to accurately capture peoples’ sentiments; then HOW is the poll supposed to accurately measure public opinion? The question answers itself.
Number four, one of the few things I remember from my statistics class a hundred years ago was that there are populations, and that there are samples. Because populations are often too big to measure, a representative sample is chosen for a poll. In order for the poll to be accurate, the sample must be of a certain size, so as to get a better idea of public opinion of the overall population. Are the sample sizes in these polls statistically valid?
Finally, that brings us to sample composition. Is the sample skewed towards one party or the other? Does the representative sample have more Democrats? Does it have more Republicans? If the sample composition doesn’t accurately reflect the overall population, then of course the results will be skewed as well.
RG, what you have to remember is that many of these polls are “push polls”; they’re taken and broadcast to drive public opinion one way or the other in furtherance of an agenda. Some of these polls are internal ones done by the campaign to see how their candidate(s) is(are) doing against the opposition. As we get closer to election time, the polling results will become more accurate. Why? The mass media operations want to retain their credibility, so they’ll make sure that the polling is accurate; they can’t push an agenda too close to election time, because the Generally Dumb Public will be able to recall the different results the media were pushing a short time before.
SO! To wrap it all up, there are five problems with polls. One is what questions are even asked. Two, how are the questions asked? Three, what options are available to the respondents? Four, is the sample size big enough to accurately reflect the thoughts of the population? Five, does the representative sample skew to one party or the other?

My parents are both octogenarians. Broadcast television, aside from testing in the interwar period, has been around for about as long as my parents, the current president, and Trump. Broadcast TV is much like Biden, still going through the motions but unaware of its surroundings. The people watching aren’t paying attention, instead choosing to watch reruns of decades old shows. Much like the “classic rock” station that refuses to become the “oldies station” even though the format is every bit as old.
Bring in someone like Harris, who looks like a black woman but with straight hair and European facial features. Telegenic. And the perfect foil for Trump, at least to the TV people. Anything Trump says about Harris will be met with a visceral response of her perceived identity, not the facts. “Harris has no experience with international diplomacy” will be met with a loud “Racist!” retort. “Harris was put in charge of the border, and look at the mess she made of it!” “Trump’s misogynistic attitude is going to backfire!”
These days the conversation with my parents centers around the previous week’s weather. That’s because my youngest nephew graduated high school and is now working in a warehouse* (with his brother), so there’s not many safe discussion topics remaining. This week they’re watching the Olympics. Don’t know if they watched the opening ceremony with the drag queen last supper blasphemy. Even if I did dare bring it up, I’m certain mom would have said something like “Well, we just ignore that part,” as if discussing Paul Lynde mincing around the set of Bewitched. But would Paul have participated in the opening ceremony, openly mocking one of Christendom’s most sacred events? Or would Lynde have remembered that his lifestyle was tolerated by a society built on the morals of love the sinner but hate the sin?

I have a similar story. One of my sons graduated high school with a 4.9 GPS and was the class salutatorian in a selective enrollment school. He also had a 32 ACT and 1450 SAT scores. He did not receive any scholarship money. He works at a slightly above minimum wage job.
