Labor Day Weekend Clover

Here’s a Clover I encountered over the weekend. 55 MP speed limit – Clover’s doing 40… and slowing for the “curves.”

This Clover – clearly impaired (by slow-wittedness? fearfulness? Glaucoma?) will almost certainly not be pulled over by a bullet-headed “hero”… probably a “hero” who will man a “drunk driving” checkpoint later on, at which he will hassle people who’ve done not a got-damned thing to indicate impairment, whether by booze or otherwise.

Clovers can drive ineptly with impunity. Because their form of ineptitude is sanctioned, or at least tolerated. Meanwhile, actions that don’t impede others, let alone cause them any injury – such as having an “open container” in a car, or having had any alcohol to drink prior to driving (regardless of the quality of your driving) invite anal probing, perhaps summary roadside execution. At the very least, a severe “bust” that will cost you all kinds of money and trouble.

Meanwhile, Clover dope-de-dopes on, the conga line behind him growing ever longer.     clover lead

Just another facet of late-stage terminal America.

  1. Fictitious state Germany passes clover American and NATO states, and does what it thinks is best for the Kurds in Iraq.

This is the first time since WWII that Germany has sent anything but money, humanitarian aid or non-lethal supplies (tents, helmets, protection gear, etc) into an active war zone without retaining direct control over the items (i.e. without sending troops too).
There’s a huge debate in Germany about this right now.

  2. Eric,

Out here in California, we have the diamond shaped yellow stickers that are given out by AAA. They usually have some inane slogan on them such as “25 years of accident free driving”. But if you look very closely at the fine print just under the slogan it states “while causing accidents behind me that I am completely unaware of”.

    Or so it should be…

  3. The clover looks through his windshield and windows as if the onrushing world is just one more television program. Because for him, it is. Everything the clover sees, is like a program in his mind, he seeks only to be a critic. To change the channel until what he sees is pleasing to him.

The cure for this kind of passive television-mindedness cloverism, is to learn to ride on two wheels. To learn how to travel outside the box.

“In a car you’re always in a compartment, and because you’re used to it you don’t realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You’re a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame.

On a cycle the frame is gone. You’re completely in contact with it all. You’re in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.”

  4. Dang! My other long-winded post against the empire went out ‘Poof’ into the Ether.

Ah well, that rage against the machine did nothing other than speak Truth to The People. …And, ‘The People’ here, already know, ‘The Truth’,… as much as that means anything.

    • “Dang! My other long-winded post against the empire went out ‘Poof’ into the Ether.”

I’ve had that happen a few times here, it seems to be some kind of bug in the site’s software. For that matter I’ve seen this kind of problem elsewhere. What I do now on any forum before hitting the “Reply” button is to copy/paste the post into a text editor. (For extra protection also save it to disk!) That way if things go horribly wrong you can just copy and paste it back.

For that matter you could first compose a long post in a text editor and then copy and paste it into the reply window.

    • helot, I got a bit of insight into how that’s working in some states. It won’t fly in S. Dakota any longer and hopefully Texas too. http://ujs.sd.gov/uploads/sc/opinions/26890.pdf Since I fairly much live on the road I see LEO’s abusing the public constantly. I’d like to warn everybody about this thing in W. Tx., counties of Nolan, Fisher, Mitchell and surrounding counties that have a drug task force and unmarked vehicles. If you’re Hispanic, try not to look it. I see them profiling every time I’m through there. It’s probably endemic in other places, I’m just there more often to see it. The DPS are as bad as any of the bunch. It fairly much goes west to NM too and they somehow all use the 34th Judicial District moniker(go figure, I don’t have a clue, must just like that number……is there something about 34?)

So many DPS were out this week it really caused a lot of dangerous situations since there’s a group of thinkers(non-thinkers I guess)who automatically slow down when they see one(dumbasses, it’s too late then)for reasons known only to them. This makes the really over-crowded I-20 more dangerous as big rigs are trying not to run over each other and other traffic. A bunch of bureaucratic geniuses long ago built an overpass that funnels two lanes of traffic off 84 East coming from the plains into I-20 near Roscoe, Tx , right after one of the most dangerous curves on the interstate. All of a sudden you have a crowded interstate trying to absorb another 2 lanes of traffic funneled into one that always results in huge slowdowns and big rigs get very little notice due to another overpass and the curve underneath that keeps you from seeing what’s about to happen. They couldn’t have devised a more dangerous situation. It’s here the DPS like to hang out and do crap like turn across the barditch, take a 180 back into traffic risking everyone’s life and haul ass without lights to show up quickly a few miles down the interstate where they might nab somebody who knows their location. All this bs along with profiling makes this a very dangerous area. No telling how many wrecks they cause each year. 40 miles east in Tye, Tx. there is one of the most notorious speed traps involving DPS, Tye police, Merkel police and 3 county sheriff’s depts. There used to be a huge drug task force there with countless cars that made things even more dangerous but they ran out of funding. I expect to see it back any time due to DHS and the extra $500M extracted from Tx. residents in the last 4 years to cover extra costs(read that, over-paid new administrators to do DHS’s work via state troopers). DWI, you can’t afford it or anything else in this state. I’m shut down today and tomorrow and can’t say it’s not appreciated in a way. Good luck over this wonderful holiday. I won’t say week-end since it’s a double down two week thing here in the biggest nanny state in the union(sic).

  5. Today, I pulled out into traffic and I found I was totally – unintentionally – slowing the guy behind me.

My 4 cylinder didn’t allow me to change the situation.

    It was embarrassing.

I try hard not to let that happen.
In my estimation, a Clover could care less and has no clue. Is that what separates us between them? ….Is that about right?

    Intent. ?

    • Hi Helot,

The guy in the video was just cruising along (at 15 under the limit and 20-plus below the normal flow of traffic) … it wasn’t a case of “building speed” or being hobbled by a slow car – both of which are understandable and forgivable. This Clover – and that’s exactly what he was – was driving a late model Camry with more than enough power to do 55 in a 55. He was not in the in the process of accelerating to match the flow of traffic. He was just blissfully holding everyone up – and that is what makes him a Clover.

    • Lemme guess Helot, the other 2 cylinders were on the passenger seat? 🙂

Sometimes intersections and road design are the reasons. Clover can’t calculate such things with his walnut.

  6. Years ago I saw something remarkable. A clover in the “fast” lane pulled over for impeding nobody, simply because there was a blitz on for “failure to keep left” (right for countries that clearly drive on the WRONG side of the road.. heh).

Nobody in the two left lanes. If the cop had an “emergency” (donut hungry, severe need to visit shitter or bash frau), he could’ve passed easily in a sideways cruiser, as they often are.

Never seen that blitz again. Must’ve been mission impossible since far too many clovers here in Oz do it. The way the cop acted though – exceed limit by at least 30, ride up the bumper of the perp, emergency and high beams flashing, siren disturbing the peace etc. – would’ve landed one of us in the clink for a coupla years.

I’m happy for clovers of this ilk to be taught a lesson, but the restitution should be returned to the ones he stole from, as our time is very valuable, considering every minute they steal from us can never be regained to live again.

As an aside, a funny look into Aussie slang – How to talk Australians (sic). About 5 mins each. Admittedly funnier if you’re Australian, such as “Coon”- also a brand of cheese but slang for Aboriginal.

Thanks for the language and cultural lessons. 🙂

I used to think that English was spoken in Australia, but it seems that I was mistaken. 😉

I will remember to return my neighbor’s grill with the thank you sausage next time I cook on the barbie.

      • G’day Mith. I reckon those galahs gave it a fair suck of the sav, it was pretty spiffy, considering sweet FA was clayton’s so can’t say I’d knock ’em. They try an’ come across like a few kangas loose in the paddock and gave it a good burl.

Anyway, I’m dry as a nun’s nastie an’ could blue with a coupla longies. Enjoy the mystery bags on the neighbour’s grill.. 😉

        Hooroo..

  7. In Illinois they passed a law against blocking traffic like that, though police have written few tickets for this type of clover. I think this type of driver is far more dangerous to himself and others then “speeders”.

    • no they didn’t, and no they don’t.

There’s a keep right except to pass law for interstates, but at peak enforcement 79 tickets a year for the whole state. I could write them nearly continuously shift after shift.

    • Hi Rich,

We have the same law in VA – but I have never seen it enforced or even heard of it being enforced. This Clover was driving 20 MPH below the limit with impunity; even if a cop did pull him over, it would probably have resulted in a minor ticket at most.

But if the same cop caught me driving 20 MPH over the limit, that is statutory “reckless” driving in my state.

Notwithstanding that driving 76 in an under-posted 55 zone is by no means “reckless” anything, while creating a traffic logjam by driving 20 MPH below the posted limit arguably is.

      • eric, in all my years on the road I’ve never seen the “slower traffic keep right” law enforced. I heard about someone getting pulled over for this once but have never witnessed it.

Of course in this state, we have bureaucrats that manage that same situation from the comfort of the office. A fairly new section of I-10 west from Ft. Worth is 60mph in a wide, baby butt smooth section that should be at least 75 like the rest of it. Since no one can drive 60mph out there in the middle of nowhere, it’s a great revenue producers and replete with pork to keep the coffers full….and the jails since everything is a jailable offense these past few years thanks to our Republican stuffed legislature that never saw a law it couldn’t make worse. Don’t take this as an endorsements for that other party either. More of what Forrest’s mother would say.

        • I don’t recall Forest’s mother ever saying, “Life I like a box of shit, you always know what you’re gonna get…”
