Arguably, “safety” features that encourage inattentive, careless driving are not very “safe.” They’re also dangerous in another way…

  1. I would like to announce that today, Tuesday November 13, 2018, marks the beginning of a new era.

I like to call this the Era of Death by Safety.

Boeing announced today that the first 189 individuals of the new era to be made safe were the crew and passengers of Lion Air
    Flight JT610.

“We are confident in the safety of the 737 MAX,” Boeing said. “Safety remains our top priority and is a core value for everyone at Boeing.”

Citing “safety experts involved in the investigation, as well as midlevel FAA officials and airline pilots,” the [Wall Street] Journal reported Monday that the automated stall-prevention system on Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 models — intended to help cockpit crews avoid mistakenly raising a plane’s nose dangerously high — “under unusual conditions can push it down unexpectedly and so strongly that flight crews can’t pull it back up.”

The 190th person to be made safe was Jemel Roberson.

Roberson had just stopped an active shooter approximately 25 miles south of Boeing headquarters.

The unnamed Hero who made Roberson safe has been placed on paid vacation.

Will you be the next person to be made safe?

NHTSA says they will recall more airbags next month. Bringing the total to 65-70 million.

“NHTSA is the agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation tasked with vehicle safety on our public roads, including oversight of automakers’ and suppliers’ compliance with safety standards and with safety recall requirements for both defects and non-compliances.”

      • Eric,

As you mentioned you LEARNED to drive.

And you learned in an actual motor vehicle.

Today most pilots don’t learn to fly in an actual aircraft. They spend as much time as “legally” possible in a simulator.

The majority of “flight training” is learning the regulations. Almost endless regulations.

Since you’re the car guy Eric, when was the last car built that had manual transmission, and no power assisted brakes and steering?

  2. Nice that you finished the rant while on the BRP…notable for its lack of lines…how’s that lane assist workin’ now?
