Reader Question: Apathy of the Citizenry?

Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!

Paul asks:  Your article, In Good Hands With Elon, ends with we don’t know about or we don’t care. Some people know about the many privacy issues (e.g., facial recognition). The question is what can be done, in general and specifically, on our vehicles? I have a 2018 F150 and a 1950 3100 5-window (original and rough around the edges but on the road a lot). I know which one to worry about, just not knowing the options about what can be done about it. The Chevy has a bumper sticker on it: “The tyranny of a prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy”  – Montesquieu.

My reply: The first thing that can be done is to object – openly. We’re still free to do this – and the importance of this cannot be understated. One day, we may no longer be free to object . . . especially if we fail to do so now. The current regime depends on passivity and the presumption of consent.

Let’s at least deny it the latter.

One other way to deny consent is to refuse to buy. It’s analogous to the situation with Gate Rape. If even 25 percent of people who don’t have to fly stopped flying until such time as they could board an airplane without being fondled or scanned, fondling and scanning would go away. Similarly, if 25 percent of new car buyers refused to buy a new car unless they could buy one without all the Creepy Tech, the Creepy Tech would probably become optional very quickly.

Finally, there’s monkey-wrenching. The Left (ironically) once specialized in this. Now that the Left is the establishment, the time has come for us to monkey-wrench the Left. Faraday cages; software tweaking – catalytic converter test-piping… whatever it takes!

The main thing is: Don’t give in. And don’t give up hope!
