Ervin was in fair condition at WakeMed Monday, recovering from a head wound. A bystander hit him in the head with a frozen turkey during the reported carjacking in the Harris Teeter parking lot, and he crashed the victim's car into five vehicles in the parking lot.

Got a concealed carry permit for that poultry, mister?

Pretty funny!

I guess you've gotta use what's available... getting beaned by a frozen turkey has gotta hurt, too!

In one of those plastic grocery sacks, you could probably get a pretty good backswing with one.
:)

If your life is in danger, fight back with anything you've got handy. A set of keys, a stick of wood, even a frozen turkey.

Try that in our god forsaken 'New Labour' environment, Chip, and you would end up in court quicker than you could say 'Take that'. The original offender would, of course, be either let off with a caution or completely ignored apart from making sure he got immediate medical treatment and advice on how to sue for assault. And our police wonder why so many people walk on by when they see something happening.

That is just insane.

America may be fucked up in many ways, but, for the most part, self-defense is still a legal given in most parts. That includes armed self-defense.

If it ever changes, god help us.

Ken - one answer (not politically correct) can be described in two words:
Shallow Grave.

If that's too extreme (and it is, I grant you), then things can only be changed by citizens attending jury duty. If they start making better decisions (punish the criminals, not the victims) then things will start becoming better.

I think that one of our big problems is the judiciary themselves. The jury merely say 'Guilty' or 'Not guilty'. When one reads about a driver who had the temerity to fight a speeding ticket receiving a harsher sentence than someone who attacked a helpless old lady the old Dickensian saying 'Then the law, sir, is a hass.' has more than a ring of truth about it. We have a weak, socialist, government, and a Police force and judiciary riddled with Political Correctness. We need to bring back capital and physical punishment, make the punishment fit the crime, make prison a place to be feared not the home from home that it is now (games rooms, radios, televisions, counselling etc.) introduce chain gangs so they are actually working and paying something back to society. Eliminate Political Correctness and do away with the race relations laws that deliberately make ethnic groups think they are different and somehow extra special - make all people equal under the law with no discrimination or separation by race creed or colour, Jeez, even some of our senior police officers are claiming (and getting) hundreds of thousands of pounds for alleged 'discrimination' on the grounds of race or sexual preference.

Just to give you all a chuckle, here is an extract from my daily paper, today.

Thousands of young thugs, thieves, burglars and shoplifters, who breach ASBOs (Anti Social Behaviour Orders) who steal to fund their drug addiction will now be spared jail under new sentencing rules. Under the latest guidelines, which come into force next month, judges and magistrates are told that almost all young offenders who breach the terms of their ASBOs must be let off with community punishments. Prison should only be a last resort and, even then, the jail sentence should be no more than half the maximum sentence of two years.

The rules are the first to be issued by the Sentencing Guidelines Council since the new Lord Chief Justice, Lord Igor Judge, took over the body and made a speech calling for tougher punishment to make criminals 'frightened at the prospect of going to court.'. [My italics]

You know, after reading this, I think the young thugs will be so terrified theyll just have to go out and mug another old lady to get the drugs to calm their nerves. Either that or, with any luck, they will die laughing.

I'm glad you still have your sense of humor; I find this kind of thing depressing to an extreme. The state is basically demanding that decent people put up with any and all assaults on their persons and property - on civilization itself - or face punishment more severe in its meaningful consequences (because decent people have something to lose) than the "punishments" meted out to the anti-social/criminal element.

If this ever comes to the US, I'm heading into the Deep Woods - or somewhere else, where sanity still exists and where a man is still entitled to respond when assaulted and not fear legal punishment for having done so.
