It's certainly cool - but for a true survival-type situation, I'd want something old (pre-computer) without an ignition system that would be fried by an EMP, with a simple cast-iron V-8 (or straight six) or a diesel. Something rugged that could roll and not be much worse for wear, once you turned it back right side up.

Something like an old Land Rover 110, Ford Bronco, International Scout, etc.

Hell, even a VW Thing.

Those will go almost anywhere, are incredibly tough, take amazing abuse and continue running - and are easy to fix in the field.

Anything modern is going to be a real liability if you don't have access to the infrastructure of modern life.

The one to get is a winch model, turbo (either a C-"whistler" or D-heard in the video), hard top, spring seat, troop seats drop side bed (M35A2C), and NDT's.

That's a tough mutha - but I bet it costs a fortune.

Meanwhile, you could get something like an older Jeep CJ - which will do almost anything the M35 can - for a fraction of the cost.... not dissin' the M35, just saying it isn't something most people can afford...

Depends on what your idea of a fortune is. A M35 can run from $2500 for a basic unit, to $6000 for a fully loaded, freshly painted, no rust example.

Here is a nice unit without a turbo (makes 2 hp less) for $4200.

Wow, that is a lot less than I expected!

Can these vehicles be registered for street use?

Yes, they can...no CDL needed. You can register them as a regular truck or as a classic. With a classic you can't drive it as much, but insurance is a lot cheaper.

Then that is the ticket. :D

A decent Bronco or old Scout will cost you a lot more and (like you say) it's a lot less capable in extreme conditions.

It's a hog, too ... imagine the fun you could have with one on the highway... :D
