No this isn't a bad photoshop. This is a real car. This is the "Aston Martin" Cygnet. Yes they are actually going to build this car and sell it (to fools). This car started life as a Toyota iQ that is currently sold in Europe, though it will be sold here as an entry level Scion. The iQ is a minicar that sells well across the pond and for what it is, it's a competent car. I think it uses a 3 cylinder engine, but I'm not 100% sure, but I do know it's a tiny engine.

A "regular" Aston Martin such as a DB9 is what Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear would refer as "automotive pornography" and he's right, it's a dead sexy, but stylish and classy supercar that can get you north of 190 MPH but still be refined and luxurious, a "gentleman's" car if you will.... perfect as a James Bond 007 car. Even the recently launched Aston Martin Rapide "4 door coupe" still looks right, unlike the Porsche Panamerica, which looks weird from any angle.

However, given the current economic times, a DB9 is a tough sell, even in better times, they didn't exactly fly off the lots, but then again it wasn't meant too, it was a status symbol. So they came up with this. Aston Martin is marketing this car towards owners of current Aston Martins as a daily driver; as a more economical alternative to driving their "real" Astons. Which is silly, really. If you could afford a Rapide or Vanquish, they you probably don't worry much about fuel consumption or such and get this- it's going to sell for $32,000 to $42,000! It will have more luxury then a standard iQ, but it will not have any upgrades to the running gear, no performance pieces, no larger engine.... it will be all standard Toyota fare. Also I've read that this car is actually headed to the US.....

So my question is, why even bother? This is badge engineering at it's most cynical.

It's more to do with EU emissions regulations, US CAFE regulations, etc., than any desire to actually sell a small Aston.

I hadn't seen this yet... all I can say is ... (to quote Higgins from Magnum, P.I.)... Oh My God!

There goes the neighborhood.

I guess Aston's not doing so well these days...

The best part of that car ran down the crack of its momma's ass.

What? I mean...seriously?

Is this 1 April or am I seeing things?

I refuse to believe this is real. No. Damn. Way.

Aston will only sell you a Cygnet if you already own another "proper" Aston. It's a commuter/grocery-getter for people who have everything.

for people who have everything.

Except common sense.

Seems this is for corporate average emissions... some new bit of tyranny over in europe.

. . . or maybe some old bit of tyranny over in the US? Think CAFE!
