2007 Lamborghini Gallardo

The all-wheel-drive Gallardo supercar comes in both convertible Spyder and hardtop coupe forms. Both versions are powered by a 5.0 liter V-10 engine rated at 520 horsepower. Buyers may choose either a conventional six-speed manual transmission or "e-gear" sequential-shift transmission with steering wheel-mounted F1-style paddle shifters. The Gallardo is capable of reaching 60 mph in about four seconds and has a top speed just under 200 mph. A Winter Package is available an includes heated outside rearview mirrors, headlight washers and winter tires. Brembo brakes with eight-piston calipers and ABS, traction control, stability control and curtain airbags are standard equipment.

2007 Murcielago

Like the Gallardo, the Murcielago combines Italian supercar exclusivity and power with all-wheel-drive -- only with even more exclusivity and power. The Murcielago is built around a 6.2 liter V-12 engine that produces 580 horsepower, cutting the zero to 60 time down to 3.8 seconds and pushing the top-end over the 200 mph barrier -- making it Lamborghini's quickest and fastest production car to date. Like the famous Countach of the '70s (and the subsequent Diablo), the Murcielago has an insolent stance and is more aesthetically provocative than the Gallardo. But it is a much more modern car, with a carbon-composite body draped over a tubular aluminum space frame. The Murcielago also offers amenities such as air conditioning, power windows and door locks -- and an available DVD navigation system. An even more potent version of the Murcielago is reportedly on deck for later in 2007 and while specifics could not be confirmed at the time of this writing, the rumor is a 6.5 liter, 640 horsepower version of the Lambo V-12 is coming, with a top speed estimated to be close to 215 mph.
