Ditto to all of the above!
Eric,
I have just tonight registered on your site, after hearing about you and your amazing capacity to say it like it is in America...... the way we are all being robbed of our individual freedoms and liberties, rights and ultimately our individual dignity. This particular comment of yours hits home with me pretty hard as a clinical Social Worker, who has spent thirty years working with many different types of situations and clients who are affected by both guns and illegal drugs. All I can say, is you hit the nail on the head with great finesse in your description of the issues. The issues are certainly not as they are presented to us American citizens by the media, politicians, the police, or the FDA, for that matter. The issue is simply that an individual in America has no right to choose to do much of anything, anymore. If anything, this lack of choice, lack of ability to make such choices only increases our citizenry to feel more stress and anger, that prompts improper use of weapons and illegal drug use, as well. For my clients, simply being unable to make necessary choices in their lives, due to the rampant deniability of individual freedoms by our government and many other "respected" institutions in our society, increases their likelihood of turning to violence and chemical addictions, not the other way around.
Of course, these groups purposely lead us to believe that their philosophies and resulting policies that lead to their continuous idiotic practices that squelch our free will at every opportunity are the "politically correct" way to go for all of us. My experience as a clinician says that the "professionally correct" way to go is to treat others as you would like to be treated, while identifying triggers that cause many of the individual maladies that may lead to misuses of weapons or drugs/alcohol. I couldn't agree more with you that these individuals are such a small segment of the American society, the notion that so much focus is on restricting guns and restricting an over-the-counter cold remedies/medication for all Americans is just close to insane. But further, my experiences as an individual says that the "personally correct" way to go is for all of us to honor and respect the rights of individuals to make their own choices, in their own way, in their own time and by their own capacity to educate themselves about such topics.
You and those like you, who you have generously shared through your website, are beginning to make the real difference in people's ways of thinking about these and similar issues. The defining moment is when we all decide that we are individually done with allowing those in powerful or controlling positions to spoon feed us this pablum via all formats. It is in that moment for an individual to make many new thinking decisions, one of which is how much longer are we, as individuals and Americans, going to suffer because of this? It is a process, indeed, but a process that needs to be put on the front burner for very close observation, frequent stirring and careful handling, less we all get scalded by the constant steam that continues to rise from those in power over us. You and your website are the best at keeping the burner turned on high, while assuring that the required formula for individual freedom continues to warm up in all of us, without it boiling over to continue the complete and utter mess that spills on us continuously.
Thank you so much for tending to the issues in a manner that will eventually prevent the ongoing spillage of waste that not only gets communicated to us daily, but is so indoctrinated in most Americans that we will have to spoon feed them for a good while before they taste the reality that is happening now and individually choose to live their lives differently. Through your writing, you are enabling many to learn, understand and appreciate the need to think independently. That is the only recipe for success that will turn America around.
I will look forward to future postings by you and others here. You ARE making a real difference. I want to be part of the change too. Consider me a sister soldier in defending individuals against the whole lot of maniacal "leaders". Until we win this war, America wil not pervail.
