Ford is continuing forward with a possible turbo V6 Mustang option for 2010. Ford is trying to get the Mustang more fuel efficient as the CAFE standards start to rise in the next few years. It may spell the end of the 4.6 liter SOHC V8. Stay tuned:

I don't get it. Right now, V6 engines only offer maybe 1-2 mpg advantages over the V8 counterparts. What will help companies like Ford and GM is if they make a bunch of electric cars and diesel powered power plants for their mass production cars instead of trying to think that they can make a Mustang into an econobox.

So for every 1-2 mpg they can eke out of the Mustang, they can sell more F-250 pickups and Expeditions to the people who want them.

Yes, a true enthusiast would want a V8, and a car like the GT500KR can fill that role. Just not for everyone, due to it's pricetag.

Exactly! Those extra 1-2 MPGs do matter. Three or four mpgs would be a major deal for Ford.
