GM stock hits 58 year low

The Dow Jones industrials have fallen below the 9,000 mark, hurt by a steep decline in shares of General Motors Corp. The blue chip index is extending its selling to a seventh straight day Thursday as investors grapple with worries about the credit markets and the economy.

I had a friend of mine who did buy some. I sold mine a couple of years ago. I'd inherited it from family and was still able to take a capital loss on it.

Do you think they may start to sell off the various divisions...Chevrolet, Buick etc etc
maybe there could be some individuality to marques again

If GM is smart, it will massively restructure - before it has no choice but to do so. I have been arguing this for years. As much as anyone, I appreciate the history of Buick, Pontiac, etc. But the bottom line is a 22 percent market share cannot sustain 6-7 full-line divisions. That GM is even considering acquiring more (Chrysler) is.... madness.
