    For me, Pontiac ceased to exist in 1988.

    It was mostly gone after 1981....

    And for me, the Pontiac was never much more than a Chevy with extra chrome.

    After the early '80s that was true. But before then, there were substantial differences - including Pontiac-built engines that were nothing like Chevy engines except in terms of sharing the basic OHV "v" configuration....

    I was thinking of more ancient terms - on another note:

    The end of the 40s, the 50s and the 60s were wonderful times for GM car engines insofar as choice and bragging rights were concerned. Every division had a say in what went under the hood and none of it was bad.
