We had a problem at work today. Our 25,000 barrel (1 million gallon) storage tank for crude asphalt flashed and caught fire. I was getting ready to load a truck and noticed a puff of smoke where it shouldn't be. I looked over in time to see the man hatch blow open with a ball of fire, then another ball of fire out a vent and then the top of the tank and side separated with a huge burst of flame. Due to the size of the tank, several departments responded but our snuffer system put the fire out in short order.

We've had fires before and I used to run the annual fire training. However, it must have been a slow news day as the TV stations ran several stories, the internet picked it up and we had helicopters flying over head for what was a minor event. 20 years ago the plant almost burned down and we didn't get that type of attention.
