    Too cold to ride....

In the four-plus years we've lived here (SW Virginny) this has been, by far, the most brutal November - with temps in the high teens at night, 20s during the day. Blustery wind and snow-showers have accompanied the frigid air.

It is, in a word, not fit for riding.

I hardly even like going outside to fetch firewood!

Damn, I hate the off-season. But I hate it even more when it arrives two months ahead of schedule!

    Smile Tissues

I think I have some tissues around here somewhere.

    There we go..

I love the cold, didn't for a long though.

Now that I snowboard each winter I consider the time on my bike freezing as well as the time in the yard messing with firewood, conditioning.

I don't get as cold on the slopes now.

    Do you ski or snowboard?

Used to ski - before it got over-run with people and a hassle. Kind of like going to an amusement park. There is a balance between the fun of the ride (which lasts maybe 5 minutes) and the hassle/tedium of standing in line/dealing with throngs of people.

I keep trying to escape the masses - but they follow me wherever I go!

Going to the wrong places at the right times.

We have been going to Canaan Valley in West Virginia for a few years now. Usually at the end of January. Seems like every time we are there it's just me and my friends on the mountain. Even when we hang out at the pubs there in the lodge, it's just us. Tried a few spots that were closer, like Wintergreen and Massunutten. They completely suck and I spend half the day standing in line.

I hear what you're saying though. It's a timing and location thing.

I think I posted a video in one of the upstairs forums. It was taken by me in West Virginia. You can see the slopes are empty and conditions perfect.
