Asshole Brady Campaign sues to stop new CWP policy

    My comments in Bold:

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sued the Bush administration Tuesday in hopes of stopping a new policy that would allow people to carry concealed, loaded guns in most national parks and wildlife refuges.

"The Bush administration's last-minute gift to the gun lobby, allowing concealed semiautomatic weapons in national parks, jeopardizes the safety of park visitors in violation of federal law," said Paul Helmke, the group's president. "We should not be making it easier for dangerous people to carry concealed firearms in our parks."

"Dangerous people"? Really? I wish the Brady assholes would cite evidence showing that CWP holders - who by definition have passed a federal and state criminal background check - are "dangerous people." As has been pointed out - repeatedly, CWP holders are among the least likely people to be involved in a gun crime of any sort. A fact, based on actual crime stats - as opposed to the emoting bullshit demagoguery of the Brady Campaign.

An Interior Department spokeswoman refused to comment on the lawsuit, saying the department does not discuss pending litigation.

The Brady Campaign sued the Interior Department and its secretary, Dirk Kempthorne, as well as the leaders of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service in U.S. District Court. They want a federal judge to issue an immediate injunction stopping the elimination of the 25-year-old federal rule that severely restricts loaded guns in national parks.

The Interior Department rule overturns a Reagan-era regulation that has restricted loaded guns in parks and wildlife refuges. The previous regulation required that firearms be unloaded and placed somewhere that is not easily accessible, such as in a car trunk.

But under a rule to take effect in January, visitors will be able to carry a loaded gun into a park or wildlife refuge — but only if the person has a permit for a concealed weapon and if the state where the park or refuge is located also allows concealed firearms.

The rules change would take effect before President-elect Barack Obama takes office in January. Overturning the rule would take months or even years if the Obama administration wanted to, since it would require the new administration to restart the lengthy rule-making process.

The lawsuit said members of the Brady Campaign will no longer visit national parks and refuges "out of fear for their personal safety from those who will now be permitted to carry loaded and concealed weapons in such areas."

Again - fear of CWP holders? Why? CWP holders almost never commit gun crime; therefore, honest people have nothing to fear from CWP holders. It is the god-damned criminals - whom Brady, et al would render us defenseless before - who don't give a tinker's damn about obeying laws restricting guns (or anything else.)

I used to feel sorry for James Brady. Now I wish someone would push his wheelchair down a flight of stairs - and throw his wife off the roof.

Funny, I get nervous about being in places where CWP holders aren't permitted to carry.

    Exactly.

Just look how safe and free of violent gun crime DC is! And all the other "gun free zones," too....

I used to feel sorry for James Brady as well, although I blame his bed wetting wife more than I do him for the anti-gun legislation. The gunshot probably affected his reasoning and things like that. I can't imagine the old James Brady advancing gun control as part of his agenda. I would like to see Sarah Brady be flattened by a garbage truck.

She is either a person not capable of reason - or she's just another DC twat that found a cause useful for maintaining her profile and seven figure lifestyle.(See also: MADD.)

What drives me even more nuts, though, is the way the Brady Campaign gets away with spewing utter, unsupported bullshit - such as the notion that allowing CWP holders to carry in National Parks means there'll be more gun violence there, etc. I never see anyone in the major media ask her/them to back up these statements with, you know, facts.
