Wow. That article brought back memories. I remember a family friend bought a 1983 944 back in about August of 1982. It was grey with a black interior. I remember the strong pull (relatively) of the drivetrain and the superb cornering when I got to ride in it.
At the time, I was impressed that the 85 mph speedometer that was prevalent in all cars of the day was replaced by a 160 mph unit with a 7000 rpm tach. It signified at once the dawn of a new era of automotive renaissance but the end of the era of affordable speed.
