    Ethanol lobby pushing for 15%

The Ethanol lobby is pushing for it's use in motor vehicle fuels to be increased to 15%, up from the current "Up to 10% ethanol", as you may have seen on your local recently stickered gas pump.

The problem is that Ethanol is a net energy loss. And this Business Week article points that out.

Thank you Archer Daniels Midland. Can we just bomb their HQ and get it over with?

It's also hugely caustic in older cars not designed for high alcohol content fuels.

Degradation of fuel lines, gaskets, floats, etc. is a definite concern.

It seems to be caustic even in some new cars.

The problem is that damage caused by ethanol is not covered by the factory warranty. Some of the gas companies warranty their fuel (Amoco/BP is one that I know of), but you would need to provide proof that the gas was at fault.

This is a disgraceful outrage. It is untried and untested. How dare they force that crap in our gastanks?

Same way they do everything else - they just do it.

We live under a soft dictatorship right now; the arbitrary diktats of unelected judges; the "blanket powers" arrogated unto themselves by our "representatives" means the rule of law is inoperative and government authority unlimited in principle.

Either we physically resist soon - or we accept the consequences of acquiescence.

It's a stark choice - but that's the reality, as I see it.

Maybe we should start putting sugar in those people's gastanks.

Make sure you use corn syrup; granular sugar just settles to the bottom of the tank. But corn syrup works beautifully!

I wish one of the auto makers would have the balls to say they won't warrant engines run on 15% ethanol.
