    Why are Americans so servile?

We like to talk about our freedom, but most of us seem quite content to submit to the government, obey any law, "Yes, sir!" any cop and in general bow and scrape before any manifestation of state authority that confronts us.

I have noticed that even the old American attitude of trying to evade/disobey idiotic laws and regulations has been replaced by an almost worshipful attitude that we should always do "x" or "y" because "it's the law!"

Why do you suppose so many Americans have become such sheep?

I thought about this. At first I wanted to beat my chest and say it's because they are dumbed down in schools, and then the corporate world is just a continuation of High School.

But I don't think that's the reason at all.

IMO, the reason is that 'the' government is so large, so encompassing, so omnipresent, that it is everything, and it is nothing.

Having virturally no income for 24 months, burning through years of savings (via 401k), has lead me to the conclusion: There is nobody to kill, nobody to shoot, nobody to talk to, nobody to submit grivences, nobody to rebel against.

Our politicans have crafted the perfect state, one that appears to be democratic on the outside, but totally controlled on the inside. It -is- the perfect system: Nobody is responsible, yet it seems to go on and on.....

We have f*cked ourselves, our own minds.

Inorder to straighten this out there needs to be a concerted effort to reduce the size of government - by let's say 10% every year or two, for the next 20 years.

Makes me laugh. Eric, a very good point. dBrong, an excellent analysis. There is so much shit piled into our government and laws that when I think about it, it seems un-fixable.

"Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato "
    -Mussolini
All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.
