Police say two men robbed and beat a 70-year-old woman before stealing her car Thursday.

Monica Brooks, 70, told police two men kicked in the front door of her Cedar Rapids home around 3 a.m. and demanded money. Brooks, who was sleeping on the couch, was struck by the intruders, causing a cut to her head.

She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

"This is a very heinous crime," police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.

Hamblin said men got loose change and Brooks gave them her keys. They left the scene in Brooks' car.

The car is a silver 2004 Chrysler Sebring with the license plates 665 JGK.

The suspects are described as black males in their early 20s wearing black hooded sweat shirts and black pants. One was about 6 feet tall and the other was shorter, around 5-foot-10.

No arrests have been made.

"I know that they are continuing the investigation on it and trying to read further into it," Hamblin said.
