I did that commuting crap back in the 80's and 90's when I worked for the airline. At one point I lived in 3 states in one year. I commuted for a year and a half once because I wanted my oldest kid to be able to stay in one high school for 4 years. Had a small apartment in the work city and the house in the home city. Drove home every weekend.
It was easier for me than for a lot of people. I could fly free, the company paid my moving expenses when I made the moves - brokers fees, moving van. They even bought my house - twice.
It was not easy on the family. My younger son went to three different middle schools in three different cities in three states.
But everything turned out OK and boy am I glad I am retired - from that, at least.
