Well after 3 weeks of having a new job, I just bought me a 2nd vehicle, which now means I'm now on the 29th vehicle in 10 years. It is a 1996 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer Edition. It is a 4.9L straight 6 cyl, 5 spped manual trans with full power & air. Currently has 237xxx miles, but has been well maintained & runs like it has 37xxx miles.
Nice truck! Those 4.9's are great, designed when longevity was important to truck buyers. I too know someone that has a F150 with a 4.9 and it has over 300k miles on it. Wasn't '96 the last year for the 4.9?

I have also read that with the older carb'd 4.9 you can squeeze three times the power out of it and see a less than 1MPG drop. That's a real engine, smart people have been souping up 4.9's and putting them in their "hot rod" pickups instead of 460's for years. I agree I think the Modular motors are junk.
