    Dash cover

My Impala's dash is all shot with cracks here and there, and planning to order a cover made for the model year from Classic Industries. I also need a cover for the shelf in the back. What do you call that shelf?

I think it's called the parcel shelf.

Using your answer, I looked up "package shelf" in the catalog's index, and, for the benefit of others, in the catalog index , it appropriately is called "rear shelf". They don't sell covers, they sell the replacement shelf only. Now you know.

Why do they call it "package" tray? Is it a place you put packages on? If you do, won't it be illegal, just as much as placing packages on the dash since they would block the view of the driver? Shouldn't a "shelf" be something flat or horizontal, while a "tray" suggests something you put "in", like the "ash tray"? Ah me !!!

In 'merican cars made before ~1955, there was a shelf or tray there, _and_ the rear window was high enough that packages could be there and not be in the driver's rear sightline.

Putting packages on a package tray is really dangerous, because if you are in a collision whatever is on the shelf will hit you on the back of the head.....hard.
