I'll tell you, though - as the owner of several old Beetles - I bet the roof (super thin-gauge metal) would be subject to some distortion. And if that trailer weighs even 500 pounds, with two people in the Beetle, the poor little car would have trouble maintaining 60 mph, all out.
That camper really makes the Beetle sit down low!
Just like on a pickup/fifth wheel rig, the trailer hitch attaches to a sturdy crossbar,
which in turn attaches not to the inner fenders,
but to the rain gutters, which may be the stiffest part of a Bug.
