The trails around here have ascents and descents, but they're pretty mild in comparison to what you find in the Blue Ridge area.

It's really closer to 14 miles, if you don't have someone to drive you back the 2 miles to the place where the loop ends back to your car!

But it's a great hike. Incredible views; and the trail's difficulty keeps out the riff-raff. I only encountered one other person - and this was on Memorial Day.
You can break it up and do it as an overnighter, too.
