    Hi JD,

    I agree it was probably time to retire Mercury; the business model it was based on doesn't apply in today's market. (Mercury was the "mid-range" model between an economy-minded Ford and a luxury Lincoln, back in the days when buyers would remain within the "Ford Family" for life, etc.)

    There isn't going to be a replacement that I'm aware of. There will be just two brands: Ford (bread and butter cars) and Lincoln (Ford's luxury line).

    So when does Mercury officially die? Are they phasing them out slowly, or pulling the plug ASAP? Will there be any 2011 Mercurys?

    2011 will be the final year - with all models being carryovers. There won't be a Mercury version of the new Explorer, so the Mariner's gone after the end of this year. Same w/Sable.
