Tom Petters. Started out renting cheap space in strip malls. Called the stores "Petters Warehouse." Basically sold discontinued items, odd lots, junk, etc.

He finally got enough money to by the bankrupt Fingerhut corp. (I did some consulting there in the 90's. Everywhere in the men's rooms, scratched in the tile was 'fingerfu<k'.) Fingerhut was a catalog retailer that specialized in selling/financing overpriced crap to maggots that can't get a credit card.

Later he bought the bankrupt Polaroid corp.

His ponzi scheme relvolved around fake invoices for $ billions of dollars of electronics that he never had, never sold.

This guy was a pretty big scammer (not quite as big as Bernie)
