Radar detector saved me from cycle cop!

Yesterday, I was out for ride, headed back home on the Interstate spur (I-581) that passes by downtown Roanoke, VA.

There is a long, straight - and very tempting open stretch just before the Interstate spur ends and becomes a secondary road. It is the sort of straight stretch that invites a quick run-through of the gears....

Anyhow, I was just getting into my roll-on when the V1 started beeping. I backed off and held it to an indicated 60 (55 zone). Sure enough, right ahead, there sat a cop on a Harley pointing his radar gun down the road. I cruised right on by him, cackling happily to myself! Had I not had the V1 to save my bacon, I probably would have sailed right into that cop's radar beam doing 100-plus and that would have just ruined my day.

The V1 is the best buddy a motorist (rider or driver) can have these days.

I keep saying I have to get one of those so I better do it before I wish I had. I used to ride with Adam a lot and haven't had the need for it in the past.

Oh! Barry, you can be so cruel at times. Come to think of it, we haven't heard from Adam for a while - where are you my friend?

    Seriously - get one.

If it saves you from getting even a single ticket in a five-year span, it will have paid for itself.

And the peace of mind is priceless. It makes riding/driving fun again...

Honestly, you probably could have outrun the Harley. Even with the radio.

But if it was close enough to your house, he would be keeping an eye out for you. So good thing you had your V1 along.

Oh heck, it wouldn't even have been a challenge.

My 1200 cc Kaw could have been into the next county by the time he got up to 60 mph!

I just prefer not to run when the deck isn't completely stacked in my favor. For me, that means back in my neck of the woods - a rural area just like Hazzard County - where I know all the roads and the roads just go on and on and on.... it's simple to just disappear.

Where this happened was near the city (Roanoke) and If I'd run, I'd have had to clear a few miles of interstate, then ditch onto the Parkway and hustle about 10 miles back to the county line....
