    Car shakes when braking

It started out really light and has gradually gotten worse.

Seems the more/harder I step on the brakes the more it shakes/vibrates.

I know it's the brake because it only does when I am braking, but what exactly is causing it.

Feels like the wheels are about to fall of at some points.

Your brake rotors are out of balance. This can be caused in some cars by overtightened nuts on the wheels, but even if so, loosening them will most likely not help now. The damage is already done and you need new brake rotors. Most likely, the front rotors are causing the problem. This problem is much more noticeable on the front wheels than the rear.

With the new rotors, do not over-tighten the wheel nuts. Look up the spec and use a torque wrench.

BTW, when the tire nuts are overtightened, you won't notice a problem for weeks, if not months, and then it's too late.
