For years, I've used Klasse. It's a German product , two parts: Klasse All In One is a cleaner (has some clay in it) and a polish. I follow up with Klasse High Gloss Glaze Sealant - it's acrylic.

It's about $50 for the two (500 ml). I've done about 8 cars worth - and I still have some left. Very economical and performs well.

I use a random orbital buffer and a foam pad. The glaze is best applied by hand - none of that haze crap like wax.

You did say 'cheap'.
Of those, I've mostly used Turtle Wax products.
Of those, the cheapest, on an installed basis, labor included, is, or was, their two-tone blue Wash-n-Wax product, "Zip Wax® Self Drying Wash ‘n Wax™"
Just wash a few square feet, and hose it off (low flow, no nozzle works best).
The water sheets off, and leaves a nice shine behind.
Weekly application builds up a nice wax job.

... One small problem: I don't think they make it any more.
I don't know why. When mine is gone, I'll have to find something else.

I like Zymol. Also anything made by Mothers or Meguiars.

Honda spray detailer is good for "on the road," too!

For 'after ride' and intermediate cleaning I've tended to use AutoGlym Degreaser and Cleaner on the bike with Instant Show Shine providing the polish, recently I also tried some spray polish from Meguiars. Compared with the AutoGlym Instant Show Shine the Meguiars looked weak and watery but the result was quite impressive with a deep glossy shine. My bro' is in the car trade and for the once or twice a year 'full on' waxing I use a two part finish, by JewelUltra, that he supplies me with.

My cars usually get washed whenever it rains. My Mercedes is still beading from the wax job I did 3 years ago but it sits inside most of the time so that's not a valid test.

If you want cheap though, I had a Kawasaki Concours for 10 years and put about 103,000 miles on it. 6 months after I got it, I started using Lemon Pledge furniture wax and a cotton T-shirt. Just make sure there isn't any screen printing and NEVER use a paper towel as paper is pounded wood and can scratch the paint. Except for rock pecks and one time when I couldn't get the garage door shut because the bike wasn't all the way inside. A lot of times it sat outside, escpecially when I was on the road.

Lemon Pledge puts a great shine on it and bugs will come right off with some more pledge and elbow grease. No real scrubbing needed though if it was polished recently. Just don't use it around a bee hive.

You DO NOT want to use Orange Pledge. I did it once and it left a nasty film that looked terrible, drew dust like you wouldn't believe and was a bear to get off. Lemon dries to a nice shine.
