What benefits are there to lug centric wheels, if any?
I know they are a pain in the ass because most tire shops don't have the adapter to balance them.
Aren't most cars hub centric?
Is it a sports car thing?
Do lug centric balances produce a more true balance?

AFAIK most all after market wheels are lug centric. They fit many different model cars. The wheels lugs must bear more weight than hub centric.
You can buy adapter plates to make your lug centric wheel hub centric - then it will be both
I don't see why.
