Angry Illinois wants you to stay out!

If you travel west on Indiana 62 to the Illinois state line just west of Mt. Vernon Indiana, you come to a toll bridge. Soon Illinois will remove the toll takers and replace them with an automated "Fast Pass" tolling system. Currently, the plan is to remove the coin catcher also. What if you don't have a Fast Pass automated toll pass? You will be sent a bill. Cameras will take a picture of your plate and the bill will be sent to your home.

Maybe the plan will be modified, maybe not. Illinois is mostly run by Chicago and Southern Illinois usually has to pay the bills but gets little in return. UNless they change the plan, a depressed section of the state will be even more so.

No plans on ever passing through the state until they fix their restrictive firearms laws.

Now that Daily isn't running for mayor I wonder who will be the next snake? Alot of people are betting on Obama's right hand man Emanual. I've been hearing that the state will be putting in more gambling casino's to help reduce the state deficit, second worst only to California. Yeah,I have one of those fast lane toll takers but stay off the toll ways at all costs.

Well, Illinois also gave us Lincoln - who set the whole works in motion.

I'm pretty sure it's to soak the people who live in Illinois but work in Indiana. If I head to Marion Il., it's actually faster to head north to the interstate and then down I-57. The only alternative for someone living in Illinois is to either pay the toll, go 30 miles north to the interstate or south through Kentucky and cross at Shawneetown.

There is a toll bridge north at New Harmony Ind. that has been around since the 30's. It looks it too. When it was closed for repairs, guys I work with who commute had to drive 20 miles out of the way. Neither Indiana or Illinois own it, it is privately owned. It was built to make a link between Louisville and St. Louis and the states benefited but never put any money into it.
