If you're lucky, it's a pad 'squealer', and it's time to change the pads.
If you're not so lucky, the squealer is long gone, the pad backing is rubbing on a rotor, and it's time to change the pads and the rotors.
Either way, it's definitely time to pull some wheels and visually inspect the brakes.
Sounds like your brakes are down to the wear indicator. You're probably due for pads.
