I've said this before and I'm saying it again. Spell check is destroying civilization. We have gotten so lazy, we can't seem to learn how to spell and if spell check says it's okay, then it must be okay. It bothers me when someone uses the word "loose" for instance when they really mean "Lose". A couple of days ago, I was reading an article on the troubles in Egypt. The headline was "Tourist fleaing Egypt". Now, I'm sure there are some low rent hotels in Cairo but still, this is someone who supposedly went to college.

I am disappointed at times when I see people using the wrong word, even if it is spelled correctly. I think part of the problem is that people tend to be more rushed for time today.

I do not know if you are asking a rhetorical question.
Some things that I think could help with spelling.
- Read more literature. It will help expand your vocabulary and learn to use words in their proper context.
- If you come across a word that is unfamiliar, then look it up in the dictionary.
- Play games that encourage you to stretch your word recognition and word knowledge. Scrabble and Boggle are good games.
- Write more. The more you write should help you improve your writing over time.

Partly rhetorical partly tongue-in-cheek.
Many of todays youngsters do not own books, hardly surprising as many of them leave school unable to read or write adequately. I doubt they would even know what a dictionary was, let alone how to use it (Or a thesaurus, usually Roget's, which in my school days was invaluable.) Word games are no longer considered 'cool'. Writing, especially little thank you notes, is no longer considered a social nicety, they are far more familiar with text-speak which totally bastardizes any attempt at spelling as we know it and conversation between todays teenagers seems to be a series of mono-syllabic grunts. Here in the UK we had a wonderful education heritage which has systematically been destroyed by years of 'progressive'', 'forward thinking', government sponsored 'Modern Educationalists'. As all Socialist governments know, uneducated masses are easier to control and manipulate.
