The Jaguar E-type was the most beautiful sports car of all time. Bar none. The 1961-1968 models were the best, followed by the 1969-1970 models. The 1971-74 V-12 was probably the least beautiful, but it was miles ahead of anything else on the road at the time. It also out classed the XJS, which, like the current ones, didn't really look like a Jag.

As a kid, we were lucky enough to have a Jaguar 420 in our garage. My folks bought it when it was about a year old. I can remember the smell of the beige wood and leather inside the car as well as its striking beige exteior. Dad bought it for mom.
That car was the formative vehicle that cemented my taste in cars and also influenced my thoughts on driving and even politics in a strange way. The 1950's and 1960's Jaguar sedans represented a great time in UK and US history, when we were at the peak of our power and influence. The cars styling in my view was sunny and cheery. They were built in an era before the mass production of Jaguars that began in 1968 with the introduction of the XJ6 sedan. Although the XJ6 is one of the most celebrated, I still prefer the older ones. They exhibited craftsmanship, although they broke all the damned time.
I liked all the E-types as well. It is hard to decide whether the roadster or the coupe was the best looking. I vote for the E-type hardtop as the best.. no wait...
