Cost to the US to fight WW-II: $0.3 trillion. This includes the Manhattan Project and Lend-Lease. Adjusted for inflation, that's $3.6 trillion

US 2009 Fiscal Year deficit: $1.4 trillion.

So, we spent half of all of a World War, in one year. And have nothing to show for it.
