I agree - but by way of explanation, I think BMW is basing its ad pitch on the Stupid American Paradigm.
We like to think of ourselves as speedy, slick and rich - when the reality is fat, slow and broke.
The 330d is almost a contradiction in terms.
Nice car; fast car. But it's also a $40k car that only gets about 40 MPGs.
Yeah, that's considerably better than a gas-powered equivalent luxury-sport sedan.
But if you are spending $40k on a luxury-sport sedan, do really care all that much about mileage?
To me, a diesel that makes sense is one that gets 60 MPG and costs less than $25k.
