Some Chevrolet dealers are charging more than $20,000 above sticker price for the electric-gas hybrid

Several dealerships have priced new Volts more than $20,000 above General Motors Co.'s suggested $41,000 retail tag. Others are selling the vehicles as used, claiming a $7,500 tax credit for themselves and leaving the eventual buyers ineligible.

Town & Country Chevrolet in Milwaukie, Ore., is asking $51,999 for a 2011 Volt -- "pre-owned" with less than 100 miles -- because local demand is high, a dealership manager said.

At one lot in Glendale, Calif., a "used" Volt with less than 50 miles on the odometer was marked at nearly $50,000.

It's marketed under the Holden badge here. I believe it to be overpriced at between AUD $53k and AUD$67k drive away.
I have yet to see one on the road locally. On the other hand Prius have come down in price and probably do just as well. I have driven a Prius but not a Volt...mainly because I have an extreme dislike for the local dealership....and a drive would just be a tyre kick session.
