They should have just said "large vehicles." Several of these are hardly SUVs (truck-based, 4WD). For example, the Toyota Sienna and the carious car-based (and AWD) Ford Edge. And the Audi A6 and Benz E-Class are both cars, last time I checked!

<pout> My SUV isn't even on the list. I guess we'll just categorize it as 'unknown'...but I'm still alive and none of my passengers are dead after 100,400 miles and ten years on the road. I drive an '01 Mountaineer.

The whole "SUVs are daaaangerous" thing was a crock - as you know.

Drive any specialty-purpose vehicle outside of its design envelope and you can expect trouble.

Take a Corvette on a rutted fire road and it's not gonna turn out well.

Take a 4WD SUV out on the highway with M/S tires 20 pounds low and drive the thing at 85 MPH or take corners at 20 over the recommended max and you'll have problems, too.

But drive an SUV or truck with respect for its limits and you'll be fine.

It's the drivers who were the problem - not the vehicles.
