More reason to physically remove OnStar

They've changed their Terms of Service to include selling your GPS data. But wait - it'll be anonymized!

The trouble is, the GPS data includes the coordinates when your car is parked at home. Which is likely to be most of the time (8 hours a night, for most people). So.. not all that anonymous.

Hmm...it'll be anonymized? Is that anything like the TSA will remove all scanner images after they get you through airport security? If so, then do not believe them.

The TSA images were always obviously false claims, too. The manufacturer of the "radiation booths" listed how they could be retained for training purposes. It's extremely unlikely that that feature was removed from the ones sold to them.

Also - if the scanners had caught someone with a bomb, when they come up for trial, the judge was going to want to see the images. So they had to hold onto them for prosecution purposes.

Disabling OnStar is easy to do. You just remove the power connector to the silver box. All GM cars built to date have a silver box located in the trunk. In addition, you can disconnect the GPS antenna as well, although all it does is receive. The transmitting is done through a cellular network.
