    SUVs are getting huge!

A saw a huge SUV on the road. I think it was an Infinti QX. It's so big it's almost scary. And it doesn't look like it belongs in the SUV family. It looks like a monster decedent of and IH Travelall type of vehicles. IOW, more utility than sport. Which, I guess makes sense, if your SUV never leaves paved roads.

I wonder if these will morph into the new limos. Maybe with a couch, TV, and pool table in the back. ;-)

I saw what I think was a Ford tuck a few times that looks like a badass military vehicle, but is indeed a road unit. I don't know what exactly it was though.

It's either the Ford Excursion or Expedition. (I forget which.) It's based on a heavy duty version of the F-150. They only built them for a few years. Even the soccer moms didn't want anything that big. If it wasn't for people who have to have the newest thing on wheels, very few would have been sold.

Trucks altogether are getting bigger. I've got a Ram 2500 with the heavy duty chassi package and 4X4. It's basically a 1 ton truck with single rear wheels. I've had 3100 pounds in the back (it did complain a bit about that) and it sits high enough that I actually broke down and added step rails. I'm 6 foot tall and it helps me. My 5 foot tall sister can't get in it without them and my 5'1 ex-girlfriend didn't do much better.

I've seen new 1/2 ton pickups that sit as high as my truck and they aren't even 4X4. I don't see the point. You can't reach over the side to access stuff in the bed. My step rails go back to the rear wheel well openings so I can get into the bed. I've got an old Dakota that fits me just fine. It's big enough to haul most stuff and gets decent fuel mileage. I can even step in and out of it without climbing.

I wonder if people just find bigger trucks more attractive, even when the extra size is beyond what is called for.
