    Thumbs up "Extreme" rap music

It helps ease my mind to listen to some tunes about how other people angrily express themselves:

"Another rookie cop gets shot....another pussy drops"

"Fuck the police, I squeeze first, make em eat dirt
Take em feet first through the morgue, then launch em in the T-bird"
    http://youtu.be/C-XJiiQft_Y

"I bring the .45 Glock and the .38......AR-15 send their body to the Pearly Gates"
    http://youtu.be/_QTooWGgtf0

"I'm America's nightmare. Young, black and just don't give a fuck.... I just want to get high and live it up"
    http://youtu.be/W2U-kNX1WrE

"I've been wantin to murder people
Suicide is played out, if you gonna die, take people with you"
    http://youtu.be/YqScOIKDmUQ

"I got styles you can't copy bitch, it's the triple 6 in the mix straight from "H", "E", double hockey sticks'"

Guess I'm just too old. Rap does nothing for me except make me want to smash a stereo.

Thinking man's comment - To me Rap seems to be an opiate for the angry sub-teens/teens - I'd soner listen to cats fighting - so I guess I'll join your club, Ed.

A lot of rap is garbage. On the other hand, every music genre has had its crap too. Listen to an oldies station with 70's rock and you hear the better songs. A lot of them never get played anymore as they weren't very good. 60's pop? the same thing. Some memorable and mostly garbage. 50's Doo Wop and some is still played and a lot is forgotten. Big Band music from the late 30's to the early 50's? Some great music. some terrible clangers too. Get back into the 1920's Jazz and some was fantastic and is even remade at times. A lot was quite forgettable. Rag time from the turn of the last Century, the same thing. Get back into the 19th Century with the sheet music and some of it is still played but a lot is rotting in trunks forgotten.

I don't listen to "New" country as it's just Rock-A-Billy musc to me. That doesn't mean it's all bad. I just prefer Hank Sr. over Hank Jr. I like some rock, especially progressive rock like TSO plays. That said, I have heard some Rap that wasn't too bad. I even enjoyed it. It's just rare. Rap has a long history. It's basically poetry (maybe not GOOD poetry but peotry nonetheless) with musical accompaniment. Jack Kerouak listened to that along with the "Beat" generation. Ignore the flashy Rappers who are prostituting their music and listen to some of the good artists and there is actually some decent music.

I was raised on "old school" rock and roll (mainly 70's and 80's stuff), and hated rap until my late teens. That said, I can only listen to the "underground" (not mainstream) rap. Mainstream rap is all about popping pills and being a shithead. Underground rap, in my opinion, is more about reading a poem over a drumbeat... poems about killing cops.
