My Toyota manual says to use 5W20 or 0W20 oil, but what harm can result from using 5W30 instead?. I live in HI and the temperature do not drop below 59 deg. all year round, mostly between 62 to 92 deg.
There is probably little difference, Larry, where a car is driven regularly for reasonable distances so that the oil gets up to full temperature, say 20 - 25 miles.
Where a car is driven for short distances at a time then I would stick to the manufacturers recommended 5W20 which will circulate more quickly and warm up
more quickly providing better protection.

Thank you , Ken. I'll follow Toyota's recommendation and change it to 5W20.
