    Battery Hens

The Corona Feverists’ main argument for imprisoning the populace - styled "shelter in place" - or else . . . unemploying millions who had jobs and destroying life as we knew it just two weeks ago is that if we don’t millions or at least hundreds of thousands of people will die.
But this is an assertion, not a fact.
In the same way that it was asserted Iraq possessed “weapons of mass destruction” and that “mushroom clouds” were in our future . . . unless, of course, we acceded to the government’s demands for unprecedented power.
    Sound familiar?
But let’s take the assertions at face value and ask - is it worth it?
On the one hand, a virus that might make half or even two thirds of the population temporarily sick as opposed to making practically everyone in the country permanently broke, possibly starving and forced to live in fear of the Free Shit Army or the government army that will soon be everywhere to “keep us safe” - that is to say, keep us like battery hens in a commercial farm.
Excepting, of course, Our Leaders, who are not affected by “lockdowns” - who get what they have always wanted most - unlimited power and absolute control - via “Lockdowns” and the consignment of the population to life as battery hens in a commercial farm.
    Is it worth it?
    For us, I mean.
We are told - as a backup Fear Sell - perhaps because the bodies (of otherwise healthy, not-elderly people ) are not stacking up - that if we do not accept being “locked down,” the virus will spread and the health care system will be “overwhelmed” by sick people, the Corona-afflicted and others.
But parse this. They are admitting the virus isn't especially lethal . . . if you are otherwise healthy. Just that it might - and probably will - spread. Which implies the otherwise healthy have little to fear - in terms of death - from the virus.
Just as the not-obese have little to fear from Diabeetus. Millions of Americans are obese. Do we "lock down" the country on account of that?
We do not know how many people will need to be hospitalized, chiefly because most of those who have the virus do not need to go to the hospital. They may need to go to bed for a few days, at home.
Maybe not even that as - apparently - many have no symptoms at all or mild ones.
Put another way, the “population” of those put in serious peril by this virus may not represent the general population’s peril, in the same way that "terrorism" is less an actual threat than the fear of it.
But the Fear Peddlers are portraying the very opposite, using a sample population - the elderly and infirm population - to create a very misleading picture of the threat to the actual population.
It is extremely alarming - or ought to be - that the profiles of the people who have actually died - their ages and their existing, pre-Corona afflictions - are not being separated out.
Imagine if the media tallied every daily death from heart disease - one every 37 seconds, which works out to more than 650,000 every year - with loud graphics and sonorous experts but didn’t provide any context. Implied that the average person's risk of dying from a heart attack today, tomorrow or sometime over the next 20 or 30 years was the same as the chances of an obese, hypertensive 65-year-old's.
Imagine if that's what's being done with this WuFlu business.
    Where's the beef?
Where are the bodies - of the otherwise healthy, under Social Security-aged people who've died specifically from this and weren't close to dying from something else?
Americans ought to be demanding answers to this, given the stakes. Everything has been put on the table - by us - if we accept the fear-badgering of them. Our freedom to move. Our ability to earn a living. Our right to associate with one another.
    Everything.
Bear in mind that precedent always becomes practice - if we allow it. We allowed the government to tell us we'd better buckle up for saaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety. Or else. The government now uses saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety to Or Else us for everything. For a litany of manufactured "offenses" that have no victim - other than the "risk" we were once at liberty to weigh and assume for ourselves.
We gave that up that liberty - the principle - and are now treated exactly like idiot children too stupid to know what's good for them and who require correction. Forever.
Corona Fever is the apotheosis of the Fear Culture manufactured by the Safety Cult. The defining dogma of which is that if it saves even one life - or a few thousand - then no matter the cost to millions.
One thing follows another, as inevitably as water running downhill.
Keep in mind that WuFlu isn't going away, ever - because viruses generally don't. The risk will always be there, for some. Just as the risk of catching flu or herpes or AIDs doesn't go away. WuFlu and the ordinary flu will sicken millions - and kill thousands - next year and the year after that, ongoing.
Will the country be on "lockdown" for that, too? Where - and when - does it end? It never ends - when saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety is fetishized by a population conditioned to regard it as the most important thing in life.
Even more so than life, itself.

Within the UK the number of new Covid-19 cases has risen, in a few days from three or four to
over 6000. The number of deaths is over 300.
As of 9am on 23 March 2020, a total of 83,945 people have been
tested, of which 77,295 were confirmed negative and 6,650 were
    confirmed positive.
As of 1pm on 23 March 2020, 335 patients in
the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

The death rate is currently at around 5.0%. Assuming the infection
rate continues at a 3:1 ratio (current figure) and bearing in mind that
people are infecting others long before they show any symptoms
themselves, that 6650 figure could escalate to half a million infections
in less than a week if no precautions are taken. At the current rate
this would yield a fatality figure of around 100,000. These are the
stark figures, together with the number of people who have been
ignoring the previous government advice, which have made our
government decide to enforce a 'lock-down' this is not scare-
mongering, it is plain common sense. Our hospitals are already
overwhelmed by the number of new cases every day and the
medical staff are already to few in number and exhausted by
working double and treble shifts. Extrapolate these figures
for a month and the scale of infeection is incredible. Figures
in Europe are even more dramatic than in the UK.

You have your beliefs, Eric, I take a slightly more pragmatic,
    rather than political, approach.

Since making my last post, earlier today, the number
of cases has risen to 8077 and the number of deaths
to 422. That's 1427 new cases and 87 deaths in under
    eight hours.

Confirmed Covid-19 cases still on the rise here despite the 'lockdown'.
1452 new cases and 41 new deaths over the last 24 hours.

Generally the 'lockdown' has been accepted over here as a necessity.
I went to the village yesterday to pick up some medication. The
streets were virtually empty, plenty of parking space - I haven't
seen the roads as empty for the last fifteen/twenty years. The queue
outside the pharmacy were standing six feet apart with no prompting
and service was on a 'one out - one in' basis and only one person
in the pharmacy at a time. In the supermarket it was, again, 'one
out one in' with a maximum of three people in the store. No fuss
no panic all very quiet, well organised and orderly.

Reminded me of WWII in London and the way the
great British nation responded to crisis.

Britain is a quiet place for the time being. Out in
the country where I live the village is eerily quiet,
much like it was twenty years ago before our
District Council overrode our Parish Council and
let the developers run riot over every piece of
green land they could find - and we still have
another thousand houses in the pipeline.

In the main people are accepting the
necessity of the 'lockdown' and are abiding
by the 2 meter rule. Small shops are working
on a 'one customer out - one customer in'
basis with only one to three customers allowed
in at any time depending on the size of the
    store.

Our National Health Service is doing the best it
can with doctors, nurses, care staff and helpers
working flat out to contain the pandemic. Last
night it was suggested that, at eight pm,
everyone should go to a door or a window and
clap to show their appreciation of their efforts and
sacrifices. We opened our door at 8 pm and
we could clearly hear the applause from all round
    the village.

    The daily figures are still disturbing;

As of 9am on this morning, a total of 104,866 people have been tested, of
which 93,208 were confirmed negative and 11,658 were confirmed positive.

As of 5 pm yesterday, 578 patients in the UK who tested positive for
coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. Our death rate is still running
    at virtually 5 %.

    sad times.

    UPDATE:

It was announced this morning that the Prime Minister,
Boris Johnson and our Secretary to State for Health have
both tested positive for Covid-19. Almost certainly due,
I would think to the public appearances and Cabinet and
COBRA Meetings he has had to attend. Isolation is still
the best preventive but even that is not absolute.

Latest UK Covid statistics do not make for good reading and we have
not yet reached the anticipated peak of infections..

As of 9am on 27 March 2020, a total of 113,777 people have been
tested, of which 99,234 were confirmed negative and 14,543 were
    confirmed positive and a
    s of 5pm on 26 March 2020, 759 patients
in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

The day difference between the two sets of figures is due toi the fact
that they are obtained from different sources.

    Take care and be safe.

I note that the US now has more confirmed cases
of Covid-19 than any other country in the world.
That sounds ominous, especially as it means that
they have overtaken the source of the pandemic,
    China.

Well, it finally happened. We had a guy getting ready to retire and was using up his vacation time. He went to a swap meet in Indianapolis with his brother. He came in last week to do some paperwork and then called in the rest of the time he was with the company. What were they going to do, fire him? There was a confirmed case of Covid in the county where I work. It's his brother. Now there's two and the retiree is in the hospital. I cleaned his equipment out for the next operator before I found out about this. Corporate called me and told me to watch for symptoms over the next week. The guy was a slob and rarely washed his hands. I am NOT happy.

All it takes is a few moments of inattention, one failure to wash hands,
one failure to wipe down a piece of equipment and a whole new chain
of infection is started. Because of that guy you could be in the firing
line, Grouch. I have my fingers crossed for you.

My sister gave me a small bottle of hand sanitizer for Christmas. I usually thank her and then put these things on a shelf. It's from some place called Ed Hardy. Evidently he's an artist. A gay friend said he's really popular with the local gay community. What ever, I've used most of it since this all started so I'm hoping it took. The guys at work are moaning about the smell, it is strong, but if it works, I don't care. I've got a bottle of Purell for when it runs out. Alas, I'm getting used to the aroma.

    Our UK Covid-19 stats are still on the increase;

As of 9 am on 29 March 2020, a total of 127,737 people have been
tested, for Covid-19 of which 108,215 were confirmed negative and
    19,522 were confirmed positive.

Death rate now nearly up to 6%.

    Ken.

As of 5 pm on 28 March 2020, 1,228 patients in the UK who tested
    positive for COVID-19 have died.

Interesting - it has just been publicly announced that the death figures
we have been seeing (from Covid-19) are not the full figures as they do
not include figures of either home, care-home or other residential deaths,
only those deaths that were hospitalised have been recorded and published.

    Latest (Hospitalised) figures;
As of 9am on 31 March 2020, a total of 143,186 people have
been tested, of which 25,150 were confirmed positive.

As of 5pm on 30 March 2020, of those hospitalised in
    the UK, 1,789 have died.

The true figure of the number of deaths is, it would
    seem, unknown.

The lock-down, in our area at least where people do
seem to be observing it sensibly, appears to be working.

    Latest UK Covid-19 figures show a big jump;

As of 9am on 1 April 2020, 152,979 people have been tested, of which 29,474
    were confirmed positive.

As of 5pm on 31 March 2020, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive
    for coronavirus, 2,352 have died.

These figures only cover those who have died in hospital.

On this small island of ours the menace is still growing daily.

Covid-19 hitting harder - 563 UK deaths yesterday.
No cases so far recorded in my town. Our sympathies
go out to Spain and Italy who are suffering far more.

We are seeing New York death toll now over 2000,
with well over 5000 US wide, it looks as though the
US could be heading for an infection explosion if
    current trends elsewhere are followed.

    Stay safe, stay well.

Yesterday, a crew showed up in hazmat suits to fumigate both shipping offices. I don't know what that stuff was but I got a whiff from 100 yards away and it was like snorting a bleach bottle. I cleaned residue all yesterday afternoon and this morning. Steel industrial fittings are discolored.

Sounds disgusting, Grouch, it must be strong stuff to discolor steel fittings.
Our death rates are steadily increasing and we have had our first
confirmed case of Covid-19 in the village. Our death rate now

As of 9am on 3 April 2020, 173,784 people have been tested, of which 38,168 were confirmed positive.
As of 5pm on 2 April 2020, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 3,605

Death toll keeps rising and now our Prime Minister is
in intensive care battling against Covid-19.

    Latest UK figures;
As of 9 am 6 April, 252,958 tests have concluded, with 13,069
tests carried out on 5 April (this does not include data for
Northern Ireland). Some individuals are tested more than once
    for clinical reasons.

208,837 people have been tested, of whom 51,608 tested
    positive.

As of 5 pm on 5 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who
tested positive for coronavirus, 5,373 have died.
